A mainly residential suburb, 11 kilometres from Perth CBD, Queens Park is currently undergoing a few changes. Originally made up of semi-rural properties, and close to the industrial suburb of Welshpool, the area has grown massively in the past 30 years. Development has begun on units and other new housing in some parts of the suburb but you’ll find some huge blocks still exist, unlike other suburbs where subdivisions have taken over. The majority of accommodation is in the form of houses — they make up nearly 80 per cent of the properties. The remainder is duplexes and villas, with a few townhouses also starting to pop up.
Becoming increasingly sought after by young professionals, Queens Park properties offer plenty of space while still being close to the city and other amenities. Part of Canning local government, Queens Park is close to all the services offered by its neighbour and there are plans to create a neighbourhood centre. The Queens Park Train Station is set to undergo a facelift, introducing a café, shops and offices to the precinct.
There are a few small strips of restaurants and shops spotted around the suburb but the action is in nearby Cannington and East Victoria Park. Although limited in some services when compared to neighbouring suburbs, Queens Park has a number of schools (both public and private, the private schools being St Norbert College and St Joseph’s Primary School), easy access to Perth CBD, the airport and three major roads. Queens Park is on the Armadale train line and there is also a bus service to the nearby Cannington Train Station, linking you smoothly to the city and beyond.
