MANNING

Manning is a small suburb – covering an area of only two square kilometres – but it packs in a lot of living. It’s close to the city, the river, public transport stations and the freeway, making it suitable for a range of needs. A mix of different demographics call Manning home, but it’s a firm favourite of older couples and families. It’s popular with professionals as well as tradies and labourers. The central location, seven kilometres to the Perth CBD and close to the industrial areas to the south, is another key element that attracts people.

A quiet cousin of the neighbouring South Perth, Manning has a reputation as a neat and tidy suburb. There is access to a few local shops but the city malls are also easy to get to. There are still some large block sizes available, as opposed to other suburbs where subdivision has taken over. Houses make up the majority of the properties, with a smattering of villas and townhouses.

There is plenty of greenery within the close-knit neighbourhoods and George Burnett Park, on Manning Road, features a cycle path, skate park and playgrounds. There are also BBQs and picnic shelters for eating outside when the weather is warm. The suburb gets its name from Henry Manning, who purchased the land in 1856. In 1936, his family sold off some of the lands for Aquinas College, which is still there today. There are also several primary schools in the area and a boys’ private school, Wesley College, is nearby.
